Slow food : Soul food
By: Caylee (Catherine) Lingard

As a family on the go, I have noticed the dinner table is getting further and further away from us!

I have recently been watching a CBC documentary called “ Dinner through the decades”  the documentary started by introducing a typical family that had their home and life turned upside down, and  each family member was given a role that they were to partake in , as well with a host that would pop in once in a while, and was talking about what the family dynamics were like in each decade, from the food to the life style.
This really opened  my eyes  about the food and the dinner table, how families sat around the dinner table at the end of the day and talked about their day, with some of the odd meals that were served.
As  time went on, there was some different ways that they would be eating dinner, from moving from the good old dinningroom table the family went to tv tables, which in todays society we are still doing it!
But jumping ahead to our decade, that lovely dinningroom table has gone to the dinosaurs , because there is either a parent at work or one of the kids have an after-school activity, and tonight's dinner is consisting fast food, which has a lot of fat content and can be really expensive.
Let me give you something to think about, a typical family of four goes out for fast food before a hockey game, twice a week that would be about $60.00 a week, that is not good! That digs into the pocket.
I have found this great small appliance in my house, called the crock pot! It makes these great dinners, you just have to make it the night before, and just turn it on before you leave in the morning. I have also made time like attending the Family supper ministry at St Georges in Owen Sound. A great little group of people, we meet once a month and have a great meal and talk about our day , and yes I get my fill of the togetherness, and yes I get to see that forgien thing called the dinningroom  table. Anyone is welcome to Join us, the more the merrier, Its fun and a real bonding experience, the next supper is Oct 9th at 5pm (perfect for those attending habits of the heart) and I hear we are learning to make a nice fall Soup.
